Q: Who can order a GenoVive Weight Management DNA Test?
A: You must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of the continental United States to order a GenoVive DNA test. You may not order a GenoVive DNA test if you are pregnant or nursing or if you are currently being treated for anorexia or bulimia. At this time, due to individual state laboratory certification regulations, residents of the state of New York may not order GenoVive at this time. GenoVive is currently working on the process in order to get New York state certification to conduct DNA testing in our lab.
Q: Will GenoVive’s DNA test give me any information about diseases, health conditions or paternity?
A: No. GenoVive’s DNA test was designed for weight loss and weight management information purposes only. It will not give you any other personal information. Your Weight Management Genetic Profile report will contain information on the genes that were tested and your indivdual genetic varatiations that were used to recommend your meal program and exercise plan.
Q: How is the DNA collected - will I have to give blood?
A: No, collecting your DNA is quick, easy and painless. It's a simple cotton swab that you use to collect some cheek cells from the inside of your mouth. For a complete set of instructions on how to use your GenoVive DNA Test Kit, please click here.
Q: I have food allergies, will I be able to use the GenoVive meal program?
A: Depending on the type and severity of your allergy, the GenoVive meal program may not be able to accommodate your needs at this time, but we are developing new products for more special needs diets in the future. GenoVive's foods contain beef, chicken, fruit, vegetable, dairy, wheat, soy and nut ingredients. Some GenoVive foods are produced in facilities that also manufacture foods containing nuts, so for this reason, we do not offer meal programs to inviduals with nut allergies. GenoVive's meal programs are not gluten free at this time. Please talk to your doctor about your individual needs.
Q: Once I place an order, how long does it take to receive my DNA kit and meal program package?
A: You should receive your DNA test kit within 3-5 business days after placing your order. Once you return your DNA sample kit via the postage paid priority mail envelope, you profile report willl be available within 5 to 7 business days. If you've placed a meal program order, your meals will be delivered to you within 5 to 7 business days. Meal program packages are delivered via Fed Ex ground.
Q: Can I order the DNA Test & Profile report only or do I have to order the meal program as well?

Q: Do the meals include meat?
A: Yes, due to the protein content, GenoVive's entrees include a variety of natural hormone and antibiotic free meats such as chicken, beef and pork. GenoVive does not offer a vegetarian meal program at this time but it could possibly be offered in GenoVive meal programs that may be developed in the future.
Q: Does GenoVive offer vegetarian meal programs?
A: At this time, GenoVive does not offer vegetarian meal programs.
Q: Are the GenoVive meals gluten-free?
A: Many of our entrees are gluten-free but some of our breakfast and snack items do contain gluten. At this time we do not have an all gluten-free program but are working on developing a program for future release.
Q: Can I drink alcohol while on the GenoVive meal program?
A: We strongly recommend that you not drink alcohol except on your free day. The carbohydrates in alcoholic beverages will upset the carefully calculated balance of carbohydrates in your meal plan, therefore drinking alcohol can affect your weight loss progress.
Q: Do I have to exercise?
A: Exercise is recommended at a level we suggest based on your DNA test results and exercise will help ensure your best results while on the meal plan. Exercise is an important factor in your weight loss success. For concerns about your health or physical limitations, please consult your physician before starting the exercise program. Do not attempt to do a particular exercise if you feel you are physicially unable to do so.
Q: What type of exercises are in the GenoVive exercise programs?
A: GenoVive has partnered with Travis Steffen , MA, CSCS, of WorkoutBOX who has created a series of customized weekly exercise plans that were made to work with the intensity level recommended by your genetic profile and complement your meal program. With each workout, you will do a 5 minute warm up consisting of walking, a 15-25 minute cardiovascular portion, and a series of conditioning exercises that Travis will guide you through using the online videos at GenoVive.com. Click here to view a sample 1-day program. Some exercises are recommended to do with light dumbells. We recommend that you consult your physician before beginning any new exercise program. If you are unsure about your ablity to do a particular exercise due to physical limitations, please do not attempt to do so.

A: Your meal program includes (at no additional charge) GenoVive's premium nutritional supplement package: Gen-Multi, a multivitamin and mineral supplement; Gen-Omega, an omega-3 supplement from calamari oil; and Gen-Biotics, a probiotic with digestive enzymes. For more information on the supplements, please click here.
Q: How often should I take the supplements?
A: You should take your supplements daily, even on your "free day" when you are not eating your GenoVive meals.
Gen-Multi: 2 tablets per day
Gen-Omega: 2 softgels per day
Q: If I'm currently taking a multivitamin, do I have to take the multivitamin provided by GenoVive?
A: If you are on a high quality multivitamin that you enjoy, do you not have to take the Gen-Multi supplement. Do not take both the Gen-Multi supplement and another vitamin supplement in the same day.
Q: I’m on medication, can I use GenoVive?
A: Please consult your physician before beginning any weight loss or exercise program. Eating a reduced calorie diet or losing weight may change how your body reacts to medication, so it’s important to consult your physician before starting a weight loss program and after you have lost weight to see if changes need to be made to your treatment program.
Q: What happens after I meet my weight loss goal?
A: GenoVive has healthy weight maintenance options that let you continue to enjoy individual entrees and snacks.
Q: Do I need to purchase additional food while on the GenoVive program?
A: The GenoVive Customized Meal Program provides all of the food you need to eat for 6 days per week. There’s no need to supplement with additional foods because we’ve already provided all of the daily nutrition you need for healthy and efficient weight loss. Fresh fruits and vegetables are an optional addition to the program according the supplemental guidelines provided in your meal kit instructions. You will need to provide your own food for 1 day per week. We suggest eating your favorite healthy foods in moderate portions. Your "Free Day" is not a free for all day.
Q: How much water should I drink?
A: Your GenoVive meal plan contains 20-25 grams of fiber per day so water is essential to keep you hydrated and help flush toxins out of your system while your body gets used to eating natural foods. We recommend at least 64 ounces of water per day and gradually work up to an individualized water consumption goal. Take your weight in pounds and divide it in half. This is the amount in ounces of water you should drink each day. For example, if your weight is 160 pounds, drink 80 ounces of water per day. Refilling your GenoVive blender bottle with water is a convenient way to measure your daily water intake.
Q: Can I have coffee or soft drinks?
A: Occasional zero calorie soft drinks and coffee will not adversely affect your results, but don’t substitute them for GenoVive beverages or your daily water intake which are an essential part of your daily meal plan. While on the GenoVive meal program, we recommend that you gradually cut down to one zero calorie soft drink per day. Gradually reduce your coffee and tea to 1 or 2 cups per day and use a natural zero calorie sweetener such as stevia. Use skim or regular milk instead of cream or half & half.
Q: How much sodium does GenoVive's meals contain?
A: The total amount of daily sodium in your daily meal kits (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks combined) is about a teaspoon. On average that's less than 3,000 mg per day. The sodium content in GenoVive's foods comes from naturally occuring sodium in indivudual ingredients and only a small amount is added for flavor. GenoVive's meals do not contain any MSG.
Q: What if I don’t like something that’s in my meal plan?
A: We hope that you will try it first before deciding you don’t like it. We know that some of the foods in your meal kits may be different than what you are typically used to eating and everyone's personal tastes are very different. GenoVive's foods are made from high quality fresh natural ingredients, with no artificial colors or preservatives. They are made shelf stable through the cooking and packaging process. Each entree and snack is formulated with specific ingredients for nutritional content according to chef inspired recipes with natural flavors and seasonings for great taste. So if you see something on your menu with ingredients that you may not have enjoyed in the past, give it a try with your goal of changing how you eat in mind. We will be sending you a food satisfaction survey to get your opinions, but you can also email us with your concerns so that our Customer Service Specialists can address your questions on an individual basis.
Q: Can I eat other foods while on the GenoVive meal program?
A: Yes, you may eat fresh fruits (2 servings per week) and fresh vegetables (1 serving per day) according to your specific meal program guidelines, as optional foods in addition to the GenoVive foods provided in your daily meal kit. A list of fruits and vegetables with detailed instructions will be included along with your menu in the box with each order of your customized meal program.
Q: Can I pick my own meal program?
A: One of the reasons why GenoVive is so different is because we take the guess work out of selecting what to eat. GenoVive uses the results of your DNA test - your individual genotype (genetic profile) to learn how your body responds to food and exercise. We use that information to put together your meal program with the appropriate combination of macronutrients: carbohyrates, proteins and fats - that will produce the most efficient weight loss results for your body. When you place your first order for your meal program, our order processing system retrieves your meal program data in order to select and ship the correct meal program to you. There's no need to decide which meal program is right for you - the answer is in your genes.
Q: What about food allergies?
A: If you are allergic to peanuts, then you are ineligible to purchase the GenoVive Customized Meal Program. This is because many of our snack items contain peanut ingredients or were made in a facility that handles peanuts. GenoVive's all-natural meals contain hormone and antibiotic free beef, chicken, turkey and pork plus a variety of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, herbs and spices. If you have any other specific allergies, please contact Customer Service to discuss your individual needs.
Q: Does the meal program ship automatically?
A: Your meal program will not ship automatically each month. Please reorder your meal program through this website. When you reorder your meal program, you will be asked to update your weight. This is because we may adjust the calories in your meal program once your BMI (body mass index) indicates it is time to do so in order to help you continue to progress. We recommend placing your meal program reorders when you get to Day 14 of your current program to ensure that your order arrives before you run out of food.
Q: What happens to my DNA after GenoVive's lab is finished the analysis?
A: Depending on the option you specified when you placed your order for your DNA test kit, your sample will either be destroyed according to HIPAA guidelines or GenoVive will keep your sample stored and secure so that it can be reanalyzed in the event that new products become available which need to examine SNPs that are not currently being used.
Q: What if something happens to my cheek swab before I put it back in the sealed envelope?
A: Depending on what specifically occurred, we should still be able to use your sample to get DNA. If you dropped your completed swab on a clean dry surface, it should be fine. If you dropped your swab onto a wet or dusty surface, then it may not work. If this happens, you may contact customer service and we will send you a new DNA test kit. If after receiving your completed cheek swab kit, our lab is unable to obtain a valid DNA sample from it, we will notify you via email and send you a new DNA test kit.
Q: What is GenoVive's return policy?
A: Your first month of your meal program may be returned within 7 days of receipt for a refund. Please contact customer service by phone at 1-855-DNA-MEALS for assistance with returns.
